Exetel still the fastest provider in latest ACCC NBN speed report

The ACCC has released its 28th Measuring Broadband Australia report, and Exetel has been ranked the fastest NBN provider once again. It has now secured the top spot three quarters in a row.

The latest ACCC report found Exetel customers receive 104.1% of their NBN plan's maximum speeds during the busiest hours of the day (between 7pm and 11pm).

Telstra is back in second place, with its customers found to 102.9% of plan speeds during busy hours. TPG follows in third, with 102.5% of plan speeds in busy hours.

The report monitors 11 telcos in an attempt to find the fastest provider. Telcos featured include Aussie Broadband, Dodo, Exetel, iiNet, iPrimus, Leaptel, Optus, Telstra, TPG, Superloop, and Vodafone. Launtel was previously featured in the report, but is no longer.

The report found that busy hour speeds for fixed-line NBN are faster yet again. Customers achieved 101.1% of their plans' download speeds, up from 100.9% last quarter.

The Measuring Broadband Report also includes fixed wireless NBN plans. The average busy hour download speed for Fixed Wireless Plus plans were faster than last quarter, up to 93.3Mbps from 86Mbps. The report also noted that average Fixed Wireless Plus plan download speeds exceeded 10 Mbps for the first time. This is still much lower than the 20Mbps speeds the plans can achieve, however.

On the satellite front, Starlink continues to outperform Sky Muster NBN. 64.9Mbps was the average busy hour download speed for satellite NBN, while Starlink customers achieved an average of 162.2Mbps.

As always, it's worth remembering the scale of the ACCC's testing. The results come from a month-long testing period in December last year across 1,172 NBN connections. All but 107 of these households have a connection with one of the 11 providers featured in the report. The ACCC reports a 95% confidence level in its results.
