Telstra is now ranging Netgear's latest 5G modem: the Nighthawk M7 Ultra. The Nighthawk M7 Ultra is one of Netgear's first two portable hotspots to feature WiFi 7, the up-and-coming wireless standard.
WiFi 7 is far from ubiquitous, but more and more manufacturers have been adding it to devices this year. The iPhone 16 family, Pixel 9 family, and Galaxy S24 family all support it for example. While the headline benefit of WiFi 7 is speed, it also has better latency and can handle interference better than previous generations of WiFi.
When it comes to the Nighthawk M7 Ultra itself, it supports standard 5G as well as mmWave. It can can support up to 64 device at once wirelessly, and also has a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port. You can also connect an extra antenna to improve speeds in poor coverage areas. The Nighthawk M7 Ultra has a 5,185mAh battery, which is said to last up to 10 hours.
Telstra is the only telco ranging the Nighthawk M7 Ultra. It costs $949 outright, or it can be paid offed on a 36-month, 24-month, or 12-month repayment plan. If you do so, you'll need to pair with one of Telstra's mobile broadband plans, which start at $25 per month with 30GB.
While the Nighthawk M7 Ultra is still very new, Telstra is offering a $250 discount if you buy it on a plan. This works out to be a saving of $20.84 per month on a 12-month plan, for example.
