OPPO has just announced its latest flagship phone, the Find X5 Pro, a device that's big feature claims are all around camera. While we won't know if the Find X5 Pro lives up to OPPO's promises until we get our hands on one, we can tell you everything we know so far.
To start, pre-orders for the Find X5 Pro are now running, ahead of an April 19 release date. If you're keen, it will set you back $1,799 outright, but you'll get a whole bunch of bonuses if you pre-order. These include OPPO Enco X wire-free earbuds, an OPPO Watch Free smartwatch, a proprietary wireless charger, and a kevlar case.

The Find X5 family is a little more expensive than last year's models. Pricing is as follows:

OPPO Find X5 Pro Design
The OPPO Find X5 Pro is fairly similar to its predecessor in terms of appearances. It still has a curved 6.7-inch Quad HD+ display, running at a refresh rate of 120Hz. It still has a funky camera bump that gradually rises out from its rear. What's different is materials. Instead of a conventional glass back, OPPO is using "ultra-hard" ceramic for the Find X5 Pro. At the very least, this is is a rather unique choice for the manufacturer.
The Find X5 Pro features IP68 water and dust resistance.
OPPO Find X5 Pro Camera
The OPPO Find X5 Pro camera configuration is made up of a 50MP primary lens with optical image stabilisation, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 13MP 2x zoom lens. On the front, there's a 32MP selfie camera. The secret sauce behind them is the MariSilicon X NPU.
The MariSilicon X, a custom-made neural processing unit solely dedicated to camera applications. In addition to physical camera lenses, a phone's photography prowess is linked closely to its hardware.
The vast majority of phones now rely on computational imaging, where artificial intelligence is used to maximise the performance you can get out of a camera. Many phones now have dedicated neural processing units (NPUs) which are processors used exclusively for artificial intelligence tasks, but OPPO's MariSilicon X is the first NPU made exclusively for imaging.
The MariSilicon X is said to greatly improve low light camera performance, with OPPO claiming each frame of 4K night video shot with the Find X5 Pro is as clear as a still.
In addition to improved low light, OPPO says the new NPU also allows for better HDR photography. The Find X5 Pro is capable of capturing images with 20bit 120db dynamic range, which is four greater than last year's Find X3 Pro. This gives images a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio between the lightest and brightest areas.
The Find X5 Pro is also the first OPPO phone to launch since the manufacturer announced its multi-year partnership with camera manufacturer Hasselblad. Hasselblad doesn't appear to have worked on the hardware side, with the Find X5 Pro instead shipping with Hasselblad software that can "enhance and finetune the beautiful and natural colours of your photography".
It is also worth noting that OPPO has axed the microscope lens featured on the Find X3 Pro, which enabled up to 60x macro zoom.
OPPO Find X5 Pro Battery Life
The OPPO Find X5 Pro is powered by a 5,000mAh battery. That's a 500mAh improved over what we saw in the Find X3 Pro. While the Find X3 Pro had a pretty average battery, we're hoping the improved capacity and a more efficient processor inside lead to a longer-lasting phone.
As has been the norm for OPPO phones, the Find X5 Pro also supports both wired and wireless fast charging. Well, at least when using OPPO's proprietary chargers. When using a wired charger, OPPO says you can take the Find X5 Pro from flat to 50% in just 12 minutes. With wireless, you're looking at 47 minutes to go from full to flat.
