Roaming in Singapore with felix
felix is one of a handful of MVNOs on the Vodafone network with a good roaming package. Its $20 roaming pack gives you 4GB of data, 100 messages, and 100 minutes of call time. Best of all it's a 365-day expiry period so you can use any reaming value on another trip later in the year.
Now 4GB isn't much but it should be enough for a short stay, especially if you plan on using public WiFi.

Get a Singapore SIM card

If your Singapore trip is booked for more than a single week then it's a good idea to pick up a Singaporean prepaid SIM card - even roaming from $5 a day gets expensive after a week away.
There are a couple of things to keep in mind when buying a SIM in Singapore:
- Make sure your device is unlocked. Most smartphones are these days but it's best to be sure. So long as it's unlocked you can switch to any SIM-only plan.
- Check the terms and conditions. You don't want to sign up for a plan on a contract or one that auto-renews. Auto-renewal can usually be switched off.
You can pick up a Singapore SIM in Changi Airport, retailers, and convenience stores such as 7-Eleven. You'll need your passport for registration for a phone plan in compliance with local laws.
Some popular providers are MyRepublic, M1, Singtel, and gomo. Plans are relatively good value. For example, gomo has a 30-day expiry plan with 120GB and 500 minutes for SDG$18.17. Alternatively, you can get a 30-day expiry SIM with 50GB of data and 1,000 minutes from SGD$19.90 with Singtel. Neither has any lock-in contract.
Buying a Singapore eSIM
An eSIM is a convenient option for getting connected when headed to Singapore. As long as your phone is eSIM compatible it's as simple as purchasing and downloading the digital SIM card before you leave Australia or when you land.
Travel eSIMs for Singapore tend to be data only. Airalo is one of our top picks for Singapore travel SIMs.
Here are Airalo's Singapore plan prices:
Price | Data | Expiry |
---|---|---|
USD$4.50 | 1GB | 7 days |
USD$6.50 | 2GB | 15 days |
USD$8.50 | 3GB | 30 days |
USD$11.50 | 5GB | 30 days |
USD$18 | 10GB | 30 days |
USD$26 | 20GB | 30 days |
Check out Airalo's Singapore eSIM plans yourself.
eSIM Singapore is another provider offering cheap plans from as low as USD$6.99 with 3GB of data and 7-day expiry. It also has unlimited data plans from as little as $2.29 per day where you get a limited amount of data per day at full speed then capped speeds afterwards.
If you want calls included then an eSIM from a local Singaporean supplier is a good option. For example, MyRepublic offers eSIM plans from SGD$19.95 including 110GB of data, 1,200 minutes of calls and 1,200 texts. Just remember to make sure you cancel your Singapore travel SIM plan before you leave.
Use free public WiFi in Singapore
If you're only away for a short stay or don't want to activate roaming or a Singapore travel SIM card there's every chance you can get by on publicly available WiFi alone.
WiFi hotspots are widely available across Singapore from public libraries, tourist attractions and MRT stations. You can find WiFi hotspots, check your internet speed and more via the Wireless@SGx app. You can also find free WiFi at certain restaurants, cafes and malls.
Through WiFi, you can still call and text your loved ones via apps such as Facetime, WhatsApp and Skype. Just make sure you're all on the same page about which service you're going to use so you can make sure you're both using the same platform.
If you decide to opt for the free WiFi method remember to turn your phone to airplane mode or turn off roaming so that you don't get stung by any roaming fees from your telco.
