Telstra's budget brand Belong is putting up prices for its most affordable mobile plans from July 30. Customers on the $19 per month plan with 5GB will be moved to a $21 per month plan with 7GB, while customers on the $29 per month plan with 25GB will pay $30 per month instead.
Customers on older plans, such as a retired $15 per month plan with 5GB and a $25 per month plan with 20GB, will also be moved to the new plans from July 30.
Belong's more expensive mobile plans will remain unchanged. Here are Belong's current SIM-only plans:
Belong's cheapest plan - the current $19 option - isn't available for purchase directly. Instead, customers first have to sign up to one of the telco's other plans, after which they're able to drop down to it.
The price increase will reinforce Belong's place as one of the pricier options for Telstra-powered providers. Here's how its $29 plan compares to other Telstra MVNO plans with at least 20GB:
Belong's plans do have some unique perks, however, including unlimited data banking, data gifting, and "unlimited data". If you go over your data allowance on a Belong plan, you'll be able to keep using your service with slower 1Mbps speeds instead of paying excess charges. Belong is the only Telstra MVNO to offer this perk. Conversely, Belong still doesn't offer eSIM, while most other Telstra-powered providers do.
A Belong spokesperson told WhistleOut the price allows the telco to continue to offer "reliable coverage, security, and trustworthy support".
"We aim to continually invest and improve the mobile experience for our customers," said the spokesperson. "Our goal is to offer value for our customers, while ensuring they receive the quality and reliability they expect from our services."
In addition, the spokesperson noted that Belong now has "enhanced support measures", with a new dedicated team for those who may need payment assistance.
"We recognise price increases may pose challenges for some customers and this team will be available to support anyone who feels they will struggle to afford the new price."
