Boost Mobile has made all but a few of its prepaid mobile plans eSIM exclusive – except after some digging, we’ve learned they’re still available to customers without an eSIM-capable device, albeit with an unusual caveat.
Instead of offering two options, such as “Buy a SIM” and “Buy an eSIM”, Boost’s website now only offers eSIM on some of its plans. The plans in question are the 17GB, 120GB, and 160GB 28-day recharges.
However, WhistleOut confirmed with a Telstra spokesperson that these recharges are still available with physical SIM users – you just have to pay $2 extra for the SIM card and order it separately. There’s no delivery fee, and SIMs should be delivered between 2–5 business days in metro areas and between 3–7 business days for regional and remote areas. You can also head into any retailer that sells Boost Mobile SIMs.
Once you have the physical SIM, you can then recharge to any of Boost’s prepaid plans online, including those “eSIM only plans”.
Here's a look at all of Boost Mobile's prepaid plans with 28-day expiry:

A Telstra spokesperson told WhistleOut "For plans that don't come with a physical SIM starter kit, we’re making them available online via eSIM to create a better experience for customers.
"Plans that are showing online as ‘eSIM only’ can be accessed by customers who don’t have an eSIM enabled device – they just need to order a $2 physical SIM first and then recharge with their plan of choice."
This move isn't typical of most eSIM providers in Australia. Usually, where providers offer eSIM options, customers can either:
Order a SIM directly (or pick one up in store) and recharge to any of the available plans
Sign up via eSIM right away through the telco's onboarding process.
Telstra, which acquired Boost Mobile in December 2024, is planning on bringing eSIM to another of its subrands, Belong, later in the year.
Here's how Boost Mobile's plans compare to other popular prepaid eSIM plans:
