Translucent tech flagbearer Nothing today announced its latest mid-tier devices - the Phone 3a and the Phone 3a Pro - and they'll be coming to Australia promptly.
In a local first for Nothing, the Phone 3a and the Phone 3a Pro are already available to pre-order through JB Hi-Fi. While JB Hi-Fi has been selling Nothing phones since last year, there has been a lag between announcement and an Australian release. For example, last year's Nothing CMF Phone 1 was announced in March, but didn't make it to JB Hi-Fi until August.
The Phone 3a will start at $599 for a 128GB model and will ship from March 11. The Phone 3a Pro is a little more expensive at $849, and it will be available from March 25.
When it comes to specs, the pair of new phones have some hardware similarities. Both the Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro have a 6.77-inch 1080p+ display, a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, IP64 splash resistance, and a 5,000mAh battery.
There's more variance when it comes to cameras, however. The Nothing Phone 3a Pro has a 50MP primary lens, 50MP telephoto lens with 3x zoom, 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP selfie camera.
Meanwhile, the standard Nothing Phone 3a has a 50MP primary lens, 50MP telephoto lens with 2x zoom, 8MP ultra-wide lens, and 32MP selfie camera. While both phones have a 50MP primary camera, Nothing says the Pro model will capture more light due to a larger sensor size.
The Pro also benefits from eSIM; a feature missing in the standard Phone 3a.
Nothing is promising three years of operating system upgrades and six years of security updates for both the Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro. Six years of security updates is the longest support Nothing has offered so far, matching Samsung and Motorola's pledge for recently mid-tier devices like the new Galaxy A-series and the Moto G75.
In Australia, the Nothing Phone 3a is available in black, white, or blue. You can pick from a 128GB or 256GB model. The 256GB model is a little more expensive, at $689.
The Nothing Phone 3a Pro comes in just black and white, and only has a 256GB model.
