Apple has announced it will hold a virtual event on May 8 at 12am AEST and new iPads seem to be on the cards. While the manufacturer never explicitly confirms what products it will reveal, the event's invitation features an Apple Pencil. Rumours have suggested that Apple could introduce a new iPad Pro and a new iPad Air.
The headline change with the iPad Pro is said to be a move to an OLED display. OLED displays don't use a backlight, allowing for deeper blacks and greater contrast. Every iPad so far has used a backlit display.
Meanwhile, its likely that Apple will announce a new larger iPad Air: a 12.9-inch model to complement the current 10.9-inch model. This would mean the iPad Air line-up would mirror the iPad Pro family.
Both the iPad Pro and iPad Air will almost certainly benefit from processor upgrades. Our bet is we'll see the iPad Pro upgraded to Apple's latest M3 chipset, while the iPad Air will get the previous generation M2 chip.
There are also rumours that we could see updated iPad accessories - including a new Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard.
