What is the price of the Pixel 7 in Australia?

The Pixel 7 family is priced identically to the Pixel 6.

  • Pixel 7 (128GB): $999
  • Pixel 7 (256GB): $1,129
  • Pixel 7 Pro (128GB): $1,299
  • Pixel 7 Pro (256GB): $1,449
  • Pixel 7 Pro (512GB): $1,599

Pixel 7 features

While the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro look pretty similar to last year's models, they benefit from a new processor, a few new camera tricks, and enhanced transcription and dictation features.

The Pixel 7 is available in three colours: Lemongrass (a yellowy green), Obsidian (black), and Snow (white). The Pixel 7 Pro is also available in Obsidian and Snow, but its third colour is Hazel (a deeper grey green).

Pixel 7 design

The Pixel 7 family design is pretty similar to what we saw on last year's models. The distinctive camera bar is back, but with a more metallic vibe. The standard Pixel 7 is a little smaller, with a 90Hz 6.3-inch display. The larger Pixel 7 Pro retains its predecessor's 6.7-inch curved display with a slightly faster 120Hz refresh rate.

Pixel 7 camera

On the standard Pixel 7, there's a 50MP primary lens and 12MP ultra-wide.

The Pixel 7 Pro shares the same 50MP primary lens, but has a wider ultra-wide 12MP lens, which enables a macro mode. There's also a 48MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom.

Both phones have an 11MP selfie camera.

In addition to upgraded hardware, the Pixel 7 cameras get a few new software tricks. Cinematic Blur video adds a portrait mode effect to video (similar to the Cinematic Mode Apple introduced with the iPhone 13), and Photo Unblur can be used to remove blur that happens from subject movement or camera shake. Photo Unblur can be used on any photo on your device, not just photos taken by the Pixel 7.

Pixel 7 battery life

In terms of battery, Google says both phones can last "beyond 24 hours". There's also an extreme battery saver mode said to last up to 72 hours, but disables functionality like 5G.

Pixel 7 processor

The Pixel 7 family are powered by Google's second-generation Tensor processor. Rather than talk about pure performance, Google has said Tensor G2 helps improve battery life with its efficiency, improves dictation and transcription, and speeds up camera features like night mode.

Pixel 7 5G

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will naturally have 5G connectivity. The Pixel 7 Pro also has mmWave 5G capabilities, but coverage is extremely limited in Australia.

WhistleOut's coverage checker tool has 5G coverage maps, making it easy to see whether you can get 5G. All you need to do is pop in your address when searching for a new phone plan. After you've done so and hit Search, you can jump straight to the coverage map by tapping See Coverage Map and then tapping Click To Activate Interactive Map

This map will show you what kind of coverage you have in your area. 5G coverage is highlighted using the darkest shade of purple, but unticking 4G and 3G can help make it clearer. The drop down menu lets you choose between telcos.

Coverage maps are only approximate, only show outdoor coverage, and may be impacted by local conditions such as buildings.

Pixel 7 plan providers

Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone are all ranging the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Here's a breakdown of the major benefits you can expect each provider to offer.

Telstra Pixel 7 plans

Telstra

  • Data-free access to Apple Music
  • Access to the Telstra Plus perks and rewards program

Telstra Pixel plans are often the priciest on the Australian market, but they do come with a host of perks.

Telstra lets you pay your Pixel 7 off over 12 or 24 months, and all plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your cap, your data will simply be slowed to speeds of 1.5Mbps, which is still fast enough to stream video in SD. But speeds may be slower during peak times.

Optus Pixel 7 plans

Optus

  • Discounted access to Optus Sport
  • $5 for 5GB of roaming data when overseas

Optus Pixel plans come with solid data inclusions.

Higher-end Optus Pixel plans also come with unlimited international calls to selected destinations included with the plan.

All Optus plans are contract-free, and devices can be paid off across 12, 24, or 36 months.

In addition, all Optus postpaid plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your allowance, you'll be slowed to 1.5Mbps rather than being billed $10 per gigabyte.

Vodafone Pixel 7 plans

Vodafone

  • Bundling options
  • Access to Vodafone's famous $5 roaming

Vodafone Pixel plans may not come with the kinds of freebies and perks you can get from Optus or Telstra, but they have perks when it comes to bundling.

If you have a Vodafone mobile plan, you can get most of the telcos internet plans - NBN, 5G home internet, and 4G home internet - at a discounted rate.

Vodafone customers also save 5% on their total mobile bill for each postpaid mobile plan on their account after the first. This discount maxes out at 20%, and doesn't include handset repayments.

Vodafone postpaid plans are all free from excess data charges. When you go over your plan allowance, you'll be capped to 2Mbps and 10Mbps, depending on how much you're spending per month. The higher your bill, the higher your capped data speeds. Vodafone also has a truly unlimited plan, with one slight catch - you'll only get 30GB of data for hotspotting each month.

You'll also get access to Vodafone's famous $5 roaming, which is still easily the best way to travel with your Australian phone number.
