If you're after a more affordable Samsung phone, the manufacturer's new A-series devices are coming soon. At the top of the A-series are the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A35 representing the more "premium" side of the midrange, and making the least compromises when compared to its far pricier Galaxy S24 family.
The Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 are pretty similar phones, but there are a few key differences to consider. If you're on the fence, we'll run through everything you need to know about the pair.

Samsung Galaxy A35 vs. Galaxy A55: Price
Price is naturally a difference between the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55, with the former being the more affordable phone. You'll pay $549 for the Galaxy A35 or $699 for the Galaxy A55.
Telstra, Optus and Vodafone plans all give you the option to pay off devices over 24 or 36 months. Choosing a 24-month plan is a good option if you want to own your phone outright fast, whereas paying your phone off over 36 months will help you keep your monthly plan fees lower.

Samsung Galaxy A35 vs. Galaxy A55: Camera
The Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 have similar but different camera configurations. The primary lens and macro lens are the same on both: 50MP and 5MP, respectively. The Galaxy A55 pairs these with a 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 32MP selfie camera. Meanwhile, these lenses are lower resolution on the Galaxy A35. The ultra-wide lens is 8MP, and the selfie camera is 13MP.
Since the pair have the same primary camera, both should take pretty similar photos most of the time. The slightly beefier processor in the Galaxy A55 may give it an edge in night mode, but the difference should be much of a muchness. The Galaxy A55 should naturally also be slightly better when it comes to ultra-wide photography and selfies.
We'll update this after we've had more hands-on time with the phones.
Samsung Galaxy A35 vs. Galaxy A55: Design
The Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 are almost identical phones in terms of design. They use identical design language, but the Galaxy A35 has a plastic frame whereas the Galaxy A55 has aluminium.
Otherwise, everything else is effectively the same. Both have 6.6-inch 1080p+ displays with a 120Hz refresh rate, IP67 water-resistance, and a Gorilla Glass Victus Plus on the front and back.
Colour options are slightly different, however. Both come in navy, but the Galaxy A35 comes in a choice of ice blue, while the Galaxy A55 comes in lilac.
Samsung Galaxy A35 vs. Galaxy A55: Performance
The Galaxy A55 is powered by Samsung's in-house Exynos 1480 processor, while the Galaxy A35 uses the Exynos 1380. Performance between the two seems reasonably similar, but we'll need to wait until we've had some more hands-on time with the phones to know for sure.
Processor aside, you'll get 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage no matter which you pick. The Galaxy A55 also benefits from eSIM support, which is absent in the Galaxy A35. Both phones have 5G, however.
Both the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 will get four major operating system updates and five years of security updates, which is best-in-class when it comes to mid-tier Android devices.
Samsung Galaxy A35 vs. Galaxy A55: Battery
The Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 both have a 5,000mAh battery. Samsung says the pair should easily last up to two days per charge. There shouldn't be a difference no matter which phone you pick.
Should I buy the Galaxy A35 or the Galaxy A55?
Given the on-paper similarities, the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 both seem like solid picks. Performance, battery, and camera quality should all be pretty similar across the pair. The real question comes down to whether you'll find value from the more premium trimmings offered by the Galaxy A55 - like the literal aluminium trim - or eSIM support.
We'll circle back with our full recommendations after we've fully tested the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55.
