The Galaxy S24 is Samsung's "entry-level" flagship phone from 2024. While it has now been replaced by the Galaxy S25, the Galaxy S24 will still be hanging around for a little - and at a discounted price. If you don't want Samsung's latest, the Galaxy S24 is still a solid pick
Samsung Galaxy S24 plans
The Galaxy S24 is still available on mobile plans from Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone. All three providers offer the choice of 24-month and 36-month repayments. A 24-month term means you own your Galaxy S24 faster, while a 36-month term brings down your monthly cost. Optus is currently only offering the 512GB model, but Telstra and Vodafone still have the 256GB.

Samsung Galaxy S24 features

The Galaxy S24 family is a fairly iterative update, at least from a hardware specifications perspective. The phones have faster processors, thinner bezels, and in the case of the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus, slightly bigger screens. Instead, the big new feature was Galaxy AI.
Samsung Galaxy S24 AI
The entire Galaxy S24 family features Galaxy AI, which is baked into large parts of the phone experience. Galaxy AI capabilities include the following:
- Web page and note summaries
- Live two-way translation on phone calls with transcription
- Translation in messages
- Tone suggestions for messages (to make a message more casual or professional, for example)
- Circle to Search - a feature where you can circle anything on your display to start a Google search
The Galaxy S24 family also have AI photo editing features, similar to the Pixel 8 family. This can be used to resize and reposition elements with an image, or to reframe your shot by generating anything outside of the original photo. There are also AI-powered edit suggestions, but these are lower touch, and tend to be things like tweaking contrast or removing stray reflections.
Some Galaxy AI features, such as photo editing, require an internet connection. Others, such as live translate, are done entirely on the phone.
Some Galaxy AI features have been made available to other Samsung devices, such as the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Z Fold 5.
Samsung Galaxy S24 design
The Galaxy S24 family all look pretty similar to the 2023 models, with some minor changes. The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus are 0.1-inch larger than their predecessors. This means the Galaxy S24 has a 6.2-inch display, while the Galaxy S24 Plus has a 6.7-inch display. The Galaxy S24 Plus also has a higher Quad HD resolution screen, up from 1080p in last year's model.
Notably, the pair now have a dynamic high refresh rate display, a feature that was previously exclusive to Ultra models. Instead of being locked at 120Hz, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus can speed up and slow the refresh rate as needed, taking it to as low as 1Hz when you're not interacting with the phone. This can help with battery life.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra keeps its 6.8-inch display, but it's now flat, rather than curved. It also features a titanium build - much like the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Samsung Galaxy S24 camera
The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus have identical cameras, which are pretty similar to last the 2023 models. The phones have a 50MP primary lens, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10MP 3x zoom lens.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a 50MP 5x telephoto lens instead of the 10MP 10x telephoto lens on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The other Galaxy S24 Ultra cameras are in line with what we saw on the Galaxy S23 Ultra: a 200MP primary lens, 12MP ultra-wide lens, and 10MP 3x zoom lens.

Samsung Galaxy S24 battery
The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus both received slight bumps in battery capacity. The Galaxy S24 has a 4,000mAh cell, up from 3,900mAh, while the Galaxy S24 Plus is powered by a 4,900mAh battery, up from 4,700mAh. The Galaxy S24 Ultra has the 5,000mAh battery as last Galaxy S23 Ultra. In our testing, we found the Galaxy S24 offered solid all day battery.
Samsung Galaxy S24 processor
The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus are powered by Samsung's Exynos 2400 processor. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24 Ultra uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. In our testing, we didn't see much of a difference in terms of day-to-day usage.
Samsung Galaxy S24 5G
The Galaxy S24 family will naturally have 5G connectivity, but variants sold in Australia don't support mmWave 5G. mmWave is a faster type of 5G that telcos have slowly been rolling out, but very few devices support it locally.
WhistleOut's coverage checker tool has 5G coverage maps, making it easy to see whether you can get 5G. All you need to do is pop in your address when searching for a new phone plan. After you've done so and hit Search, you can jump straight to the coverage map by tapping See Coverage Map and then tapping Click To Activate Interactive Map.
This map will show you what kind of coverage you have in your area. 5G coverage is highlighted using the darkest shade of purple, but unticking 4G and 3G can help make it clearer. The drop-down menu lets you choose between telcos.
Coverage maps are only approximate, only show outdoor coverage, and may be impacted by local conditions such as buildings.

Samsung Galaxy S24 plan providers
Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone are all ranging the Galaxy S24 family. Here's a breakdown of the major benefits you can expect each provider to offer.
Telstra Galaxy S24 plans
Telstra Galaxy plans are often the priciest on the Australian market, but they do come with a host of perks.
Telstra lets you pay your Galaxy off over 12, 24, or 36 months, and all plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your cap, your data will simply be slowed to speeds of 1.5Mbps, which is still fast enough to stream video in SD. But speeds may be slower during peak times.
Optus Galaxy S24 plans
Optus Galaxy plans come with solid data inclusions.
Higher-end Optus plans also come with unlimited international calls to selected destinations included with the plan.
All Optus plans are contract-free, and devices can be paid off across 12, 24, or 36 months.
In addition, all Optus postpaid plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your allowance, you'll be slowed to 1.5Mbps rather than being billed $10 per gigabyte.
Vodafone Galaxy S24 plans
Vodafone Galaxy plans may not come with the kinds of freebies and perks you can get from Optus or Telstra, but they have bonuses when it comes to bundling.
If you have a Vodafone mobile plan, you can get most of the telco's internet plans - NBN, 5G home internet, and 4G home internet - at a discounted rate.
Vodafone customers also save 5% on their total mobile bill for each postpaid mobile plan on their account after the first. This discount maxes out at 20% and doesn't include handset repayments.
Vodafone postpaid plans are all free from excess data charges. When you go over your plan allowance, you'll be capped at 2Mbps.
You'll also get access to Vodafone's famous $5 roaming, which is still easily the best way to travel with your Australian phone number.
How to choose the best Samsung Galaxy S24 plan for you
There are a few key factors to keep in mind when picking a Samsung Galaxy S24 plan:
- Answering "how much mobile data do I use" can help you avoid overspending. Don't pay for more data than you need
- Decide whether you want to pay off your phone shorter on a 24-month plan or get a smaller bill over a longer period of time on a 36-month plan
- If you're a frequent overseas traveller consider any international roaming inclusions
- You may also want to make international phone calls so check if the destinations you may be calling are included in your plan
