If you're thinking about a 2022 Samsung flagship phone, you can pick from three devices: a standard Galaxy S22, a larger Galaxy S22+, and a Galaxy S22 Ultra that's ostensibly a Galaxy Note by another name.
The standard Galaxy S22 is Samsung's new entry-level flagship, featuring a comparatively small 6.1-inch display, while still sharing most of its functionality with the Galaxy S22+.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plans by Provider
Telstra Samsung Galaxy S22 Plans
- Data-free access to Apple Music
- Access to the Telstra Plus perks and rewards program
Telstra Galaxy plans are often the priciest on the Australian market, but they do come with a host of perks.
Telstra lets you pay your Galaxy off over 12 or 24 months, and all plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your cap, your data will simply be slowed to speeds of 1.5Mbps, which is still fast enough to stream video in SD. But speeds may be slower during peak times.
Optus Samsung Galaxy S22 Plans
- Free access to Optus Sport until August 1, after which you can pay for it at a discounted rate
- Discounted movie tickets for Hoyts cinemas
Optus Galaxy plans come with solid data inclusions and entertainment extras.
Higher-end Optus Samsung plans also come with unlimited international calls to selected destinations included with the plan.
All Optus plans are contract-free, devices can be paid off across 12, 24, or 36 months, and you can customise inclusions like roaming and international calls on a month-to-month basis.
In addition, all Optus postpaid plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your allowance, you'll be slowed to 1.5Mbps rather than being billed $10 per gigabyte.
Vodafone Samsung Galaxy S22 Plans
- Step up or down in plan inclusions
- Access to Vodafone's famous $5 roaming
Vodafone Galaxy plans may not come with the kinds of freebies and perks you can get from Optus or Telstra, but they do offer a lot of flexibility. Like Telstra and Optus plans, Vodafone plans are contract-free on the basis that you can leave at any time without penalty. You'll just need to pay out the remaining value of your handset.
You can also step up or down in plan inclusions up to once per month, and ease the burden of ever-rising phone prices by paying off your handset over 12, 24 or 36 months. You'll pay the same overall for your Galaxy no matter which option you pick.
Vodafone postpaid plans are all free from excess data charges. When you go over your plan allowance, you'll be capped to 2Mbps and 10Mbps, depending on how much you're spending per month. The higher your bill, the higher your capped data speeds. Vodafone also has a truly unlimited plan, with one slight catch - you'll only get 30GB of data for hotspotting each month.
You'll also get access to Vodafone's famous $5 roaming, which is still easily the best way to travel with your Australian phone number.
Woolworths Mobile Samsung Galaxy S22 Plans
- Up to 300GB Data Banking
- 10% off Woolworths grocery shop one a month
Woolworths Galaxy plans may not come from a big name telco, but there are other perks.
To start, Woolworths Mobile also offers up to 300GB Data Banking for your excess data. Anything of your data allowance that you don't use will roll over to the next month. You can have up to 300GB of data in your data bank at any time.
Customers can also gift spare data to other Woolworths Mobile users.
Woolworths Mobile is powered by the Telstra network, but at present, does not have access to 5G.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Features
The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ look almost identical to their predecessors, featuring the same kind of camera bump that spills over into the phone's frame. Both are slightly smaller, however, measuring in at 6.1-inch and 6.6-inch, respectively. For comparison, the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+ were 6.2-inch and 6.7-inch phones.
The Galaxy S22 is available in black, white, green, and pink.
Camera | The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ have the same camera configuration, moving beyond a 12MP lens to a larger 50MP sensor. These are joined by a 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 10MP 3x zoom lens. One of the major improvements Samsung is touting this year is better low light camera performance, for both photography and video.
In our testing, we found the Galaxy S22 felt like a side-grade from last year's model. Performance was better in general, but not so much that it closes the gap with the likes of Apple and Google. Once again, the Galaxy S22 Ultra stands out from the standard Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ when it comes to camera, featuring a large 108MP primary lens, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 10MP 3x zoom lens and a 10MP 10x zoom lens. Check out these camera samples taken on the Galaxy S22. Click or tap on any photo to see a larger version. |
Battery Life | The Galaxy S22 only features a 3,700mAh battery, making it 300mAh smaller than the Galaxy S21 battery. Sadly, this means the battery life likewise isn't amazing. Don't expect to make it full a full day if you're a heavy user. |
Processor | The entire Galaxy S22 family is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 1 processor in Australia. |
