With millions of Australians now able to access 5G, more of are gravitating towards mobile plans boasting faster network speeds. If you're one of these people, you've come to the right place because we've rounded up the most affordable 5G mobile plans, as well as picks paired with the iPhone 16 and Galaxy S24.
When picking the best 5G mobile plans, we're looking for the best bang-for-buck deals; plans that get you the most data possible in each given price category. For most categories, we consider both postpaid and prepaid options. The exception to this is iPhone 16 and Galaxy S25 plans, as new phones can't be paired with a prepaid plan.
Best 5G mobile plan: $30 and under
- Most data for under $30 per month (for at least six months after signing up)
- Unlimited talk and text
- Prepaid and postpaid mobile plans considered
Getting a 5G mobile plan won't break the bank. There are plenty of options under $30 per month. The above plan from TPG is our current top pick. You'll get 100GB for just $22.50 per month, which is great value given similar plans come with around 25GB.
This pricing lasts for your first six months with TPG, however. After this, you'll pay $45 per month. The plan is contract-free, so you can always leave after your discount runs out.
If you're a TPG internet customer, you can save $5 per month on this mobile plan when the initial discount finishes. This means you'll pay $40 per month instead of $45.
TPG's mobile plans are powered by the Vodafone network. Download speeds on this plan are capped to 250Mbps. Speed caps of between 100Mbps and 250Mbps are pretty common on cheaper 5G mobile plans. Thanks to a network-sharing agreement with Optus, customers using the Vodafone access now coverage spanning 98.4% of the population. That's just 0.1% less than Optus' network.
If this plan doesn't appeal to you, here are some other popular options in the same price bracket:
Best 5G mobile plan: $40 and under
- Most data for between $31 and $40 per month (for at least six months after signing up)
- Unlimited talk and text
- Prepaid and postpaid mobile plans considered
When we look at 5G plans between $31 and $40 per month, felix is a great pick. You'll get unlimited data for $40 per month. The catch is speeds are capped to 20Mbps, which is far slower than what other 5G plans are capable of. But if you don't want to think about excess usage, this plan is worth considering.
20Mbps is a similar speed to an NBN 25 plan, and is still fast enough for most online tasks you'll do on your phone, such as streaming high-definition video on the go through Netflix. Large app downloads might just seem a little slower.
felix moible also has an unusually great international roaming offer, where you'll pay $20 for a travel pack with 4GB of data, 100 texts, and 100 minutes of talk with a one-year expiry.
You can currently use the promo code FELIX50 to save $20 per month on your first three months on this felix plan.
For alternative 5G mobile plan options under $40, check out these popular choices:
Best 5G mobile plan: $50 and under
- Most data for between $41 and $50 per month (for at least six months after signing up)
- Unlimited talk and text
- Prepaid and postpaid mobile plans considered
The more you spend, the more telcos you have to choose from, the bigger the promotional discounts, and the more data you have to play with. If you spend between $41 and $50 per month, you can get over 100GB of data.
Vodafone is a fantastic pick here. Thanks to its current deal, you'll pay $49 per month for a 360GB allowance for your first six months. After this, pricing increases to $59 per month. You'll also get a free three month subscription to Binge.
Looking for a different telco offering 5G mobile plans under $50? Here are some other popular plans:
Several Telstra-powered providers such as Tangerine are currently running a double data offer on many 5G mobile plans, but it's worth noting this extra allowance only lasts for your first three months. After that, you'll go back to the base data allowance.
Best 5G mobile plan with uncapped speeds
- Cheapest plan price in our database (for at least six months after signing up)
- At least 50GB data with uncapped speeds (excluding bonus data)
- Unlimited data (any speed)
- Prepaid and postpaid mobile plans considered
Many cheaper 5G plans have speed caps - they're typically limited to between 100Mbps and 250Mbps - so for this category, we're only looking at uncapped plans. This means the plans can operate as fast as network conditions allow. When testing 5G on an uncapped plan, we've seen speeds between 500Mbps and 1Gbps.
Because we know you need a lot of data to go with those fast 5G speeds, we only considered plans with at least 50GB of full-speed data in this category.
Right now, Vodafone is also our top pick here. You'll pay $39 per month for 100GB. This deal lasts for your first year months, after which the price will increase by $10 to $49 per month.
If our chosen plan doesn't float your boat, here are some more popular 5G plans with uncapped speeds.

WhistleOut is Australia's telco comparison website, founded to help everyday Aussies find a phone and internet plan that's right for them. As part of our service promise, we're committed to listing plans from at least the top ten providers of mobile plans in the market, but we're currently tracking 28.
When we have a commercial relationship with a provider, you'll see a "Go To Site" button that takes you straight to that plan. We still compare plans from providers we don't have a commercial relationship with, but these don't have a button. To keep our listings up to date, we have a dedicated product team that makes around 400 changes to our database each month.
