Telstra MVNO numobile has started selling refurbished Apple Watches on a plan.
It's currently offering just two models, the Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch Series 7.
Both are sold in a "quality refurbished" condition meaning they have minimal signs of wear which can be things like minor marks on the housing or faint screen scratches.
Apart from the cosmetic flaws, they will be fully functional and have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
The watches will be available on what numobile calls an "own and pay" plan.
Much like a traditional mobile phone with a repayment plan, numobile is offering customers to purchase the Series 6 for $16 per month (minimum total cost of $384) or the Series 7 for $20 per month each (minimum total cost of $480) over a 24-month term.
Once the 24 months is up and you've paid the Apple Watch off it's yours to keep.
Both models being sold come with 4G connectivity, meaning you can opt for your Apple Watch to connect to a mobile network via eSIM.
Only the big three telcos Telstra, Optus and Vodafone currently offer eSIM plans for smartwatches. Telstra recently enabled smartwatch support for its Mobile Virtual Network Operators including numobile. numobile plans on implementing the feature, but there's currently no timeline.
The current budget model, the Apple Watch SE (2022) with 4G connectivity, has an RRP of $479. While the SE is newer than both the Series 6 and Series 7, as mainline models, they have an edge over the SE.
Both the Series 6 and 7 come with an always-on display, bloody-oxygen sensor and fast charging - features not available on the SE. Plus, they have third-generation optical heart sensors compared with the SE's second-generation. If you opt for either one from numobile you're paying less or the same price for a smartwatch with superior capabilities.
You're also paying 50% less than what you'd pay for the latest from Apple, the Series 9 with 4G connectivity starts at $809.
As well as refurbished Apple Watches numobile also sells refurbished iPhones.
